About
Journey from Counseling to UX:
From an early age I’ve always enjoyed understanding more about people. As I grew older, understanding people expanded to include a desire to help people solve problems. This curiosity led me initial into Psychology, Counseling, and then in to UX Design where I am now able to blend multiple areas of interest, from people and their behaviors, to solving problems in an evolving and complex world.
Coming from a counseling background, I learned several important UX lessons without knowing it at first. The first, would be to always have empathy for the user. Secondly, always take into consideration the context that the user finds themselves in. This could include aspects of the environment, or just the narrative of their day to day lives as they experience it. Lastly, to be aware of how easily bias can creep into a discussion or design process that may actually end up obscuring users’ needs.
As a UX Designer I love taking these considerations and applying them to complex problems. My prior experience makes me comfortable both in a research oriented role, such as gathering information via user interviews, or developing a more intuitive interface based on behavioral preferences.
Mission Statement:
As a UX Designer I want to design digital products and tools that empower users and businesses.
Core Design Values:
Courage - to seek out feedback and try new skills and methodologies.
Empathy - seek to understand the user from their own perspective and in the context of their environment.
Accessibility - design from a perspective of inclusivity and easy use.
